Hurricane Irene is developing dramatically and the National Hurricane Center warned that the storm upgraded from its current level to Category 3. New York becomes the sixth U.S. state after New Jersey, North Carolina, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia to declare a state of emergency.

Furthermore, the late Thursday night had maximum winds at the center of the hurricane were 115 miles per hour, making it a Category 3 storm. U.S. President Barack Obama issued an emergency for North Carolina Thursday night before a forecast that the Category 3 storm will beat the state on the weekend with 185 km/h winds and 30 centimeters of rainfall. There have been forecast that the storm could be upgraded to a Category 4 before hitting North Carolina. “In this emergency I am activating all levels of state government to prepare for any situation that may be caused by Hurricane Irene.” said New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Hurricane Irene has been said to become the most powerful storm to hit the East Coast in seven years.
